Five Days Training Programme on ‘Methods and Approaches in Research on Migration Issues’

Sriperumbudur Nov. 20 , 2017- Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), sponsored  a The five days training programme on ‘Methods and Approaches in Research on Migration Issues’ which began  today at Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerela.

While delivering the inaugural address Professor (Dr.) M.M. Goel, Director RGNIYD said that the research on migration with positive and negative implications is necessary for understanding, analysing, interpreting data.

Prof. Goel believes that Indians are poor and unemployed in India only and whenever they get opportunity to go abroad, they prove better than anybody else. This justifies international migration which calls for communication skills in English and spiritual input and falls in the domain of human resource development. He promotes globalization as internationalization of Indianization.

There is a need for policy implications oriented research and not only t - value significance at 95 percent level of significance with many disconnections. We are required to learn to tell the findings of the research in an objective manner, said Prof. Goel who has successfully guided 19 Ph. D scholars and 25 M. Phil dissertations in economics.

To keep our passion for research on migration, let us accept the challenge of no cut and paste job which amounts to plagiarism (intellectual theft) which is punishable by Law, believes Professor Goel.

There is a strong case for substantial funding for conducting high quality research for finding economically viable solution to the emerging challenges, said Prof. Goel

To draw policy implications (not suggestions) flowing from the objectives and major findings of the research studies is the greatest challenge in the quality of research, told Director Goel. Let us enrich ourselves with a variety of experiences without phobias for trying a variety of research methodologies based on primary and secondary data, told Professor Goel.

The quality of research is directly correlated with the infrastructure, commitment of the researcher and guide to do something worthwhile, told Professor Goel.

Earlier Dr. Siv Kumar of RGNIYD introduced Prof. Goel. Dr. U.S. Mishra explained about the programme and Mr Jayapathy Francis, Executive Director, LISSTAR were also present during the occasion.
