Secretary to
Government of India MoYAS visits to RGNIYD
Smt. Sindhusree khullar,
Secretary to Govt. of India Ministry of Youth Affairs &
Sports visited RGNIYD on 23-Dec-2008. This is the first
visit to the institute after taking over as the
Secretary to Government of India Ministry of Youth
Affairs & Sports. She was warmly welcomed by the
Director and the other Faculty members. The
infrastructure facilities of the institute were
inspected by her.
In the
discussions with the Director and the Faculty Heads, she
exhorted the need for RGNIYD University to build a brand
for the courses being offered.
A
presentation on the findings and recommendations of a
RGNIYD study on “Functioning of NSS TORCs/TOCs”
conducted in 2004 was made to her. The follow-up of the
study by RGNIYD was also presented to her. This was
concluded with RGNIYD’s Plan of Action to strengthen
TORCs/TOCs. Later the Secretary interacted with the
Guest Faculty and Students of RGNIYD Academic
Programmes. A drama based presentation to depict the
focus of the various academic courses viz. Youth
Empowerment, Career Counseling, Local Governance, Gender
Studies and Life Skills was presented.
A brief
presentation of the activities of Adolescent Health
Development project sponsored by UNFPA was also made.
This was followed by an interaction with the Teachers
trained by RGNIYD on Career Guidance. The Secretary also
had a message for the adolescents of Sriperumbudur which
was relayed through the community radio “Ilanthalir”.
The Secretary
wanted RGNIYD to have a network of participants,
especially young elected Panchayati raj representatives,
prepare a profile of DYCs, link RGNIYD’s Manual for
Training the youth in the border District with the NYKS
Programmes, develop linkages with international
organization like UNDP, Asian Development Bank etc. She
directed that YDI being developed by RGNIYD in
collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Sciences
should be connected with the other indices like HDI, GDI
etc to establish its authenticity and acceptability. The
YDI will also be the basis on which the National Youth
Policy will be revised.
