Dr.Udaya Mahadevan, Adjunct Professor, RGNIYD, served as faculty member for thirty four years at the Post-Graduate and Research Department of Social Work at Loyola College, Chennai. She was the faculty Coordinator of the Centre for Women Studies and the Centre for Social Inclusion and Dalit Studies at Loyola College, Chennai. She was awarded the prestigious Emeritus Fellowship Award 2011-2013 by the University Grants Commission (UGC). She has served as peer team member NAAC and as subject expert in Social Work on University commissions and UGC workshops. She has several research publications to her credit.She is the recipient of several awards and distinctions including the Dr.Anantha Krishnan Commemorative Research Fellowship Award, the Dr.Yedanapalli Research Award, the Shri.Gyanananda National Award received from Dr.Shri.Abdul Kalam, and Best Social Work Educator Award from the Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University. She has been conferred the Lions Club International, Roll of Honour Award and the Vocational Excellence award by the Rotary Club. She has served as Ph.D Research Guide in Social Work at the University of Madras, the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala and the Mother Teresa Women's University, Kodaikenal. She is the founder member of Jeevodaya, the first hospice for cancer patients in Tamil Nadu and in recognition of her services, she has been conferred the Honour of Life Member of the Indian Association of Palliative Care.She has been conferred the distinguished alumnus  award for her services in social work by the Department of Social Work, Stella Maris College during their Golden Jubilee Celebrations in 2013.
