At this event Prof. Yunus discussed the relevance of social entrepreneurship for youth development by illustrating the Grameen success story and its impact on poverty alleviation and employment generation. He also deliberated on how he replicated the Grameen social business model in other developing and developed countries to fight against poverty and deprivation.

Prof. Muhammad Yunus was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for founding the Grameen Bank and pioneering the concepts of microcredit and microfinance. The Fortune Magazine named Prof. Yunus as one of 12 greatest entrepreneurs of the current era in March 2012. He became Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland in 2012. Previously, he was a professor of economics at Chittagong University in Bangladesh. He has published several books related to his finance work. He is a founding board member of Grameen America and Grameen Foundation, which support microcredit. Prof. Yunus also serves on the Board of Directors of the United Nations Foundation, a public charity created in 1998 by American philanthropist Ted Turner’s $1 billion gift to support UN causes.

The Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, is an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.  RGNIYD is a vital resource centre for youth development and offering postgraduate academic programmes and Ph.D programmes emphasising various dimensions of youth development. It has been engaged in seminal research in the vital areas of youth development and coordinating Training Programmes for state agencies and the officials of youth organisation, besides the Extension and Outreach initiatives across the country.
