1st Convocation Day of RGNIYD

 

The RGNIYD’s first convocation was held at Sriperumbudur today during which 163 graduands were awarded Masters Degrees in the aforesaid disciplines. Besides, 37 candidates of the 2008-10 to 2014-16 batches were awarded rank certificates for their scholastic achievement. Ms. Lakshmi Vaidyanathan Endowment Gold Medal for the first rank holder in Gender Studies was also instituted.

 

The RGNIYD commenced its academic programmes during the year 2008 with five post graduate programmes viz., M.A. Youth Empowerment, M.A. Career Counselling, M.A. Gender Studies, M.A. Local Governance and M.A. Life Skills Education. Currently RGNIYD offers a range of academic programmes viz., B.Voc. Apparel Manufacturing & Entrepreneurship, B.Voc. Fashion Design & Retail, M.Sc. Counselling Psychology, M.A. Development Policy and Practice, M.A. Gender Studies, M.A. Local Governance and Development, M.A. Social Innovations and Entrepreneurship, M.A. Social Work (Youth and Community Development) besides Ph.D programmes - interdisciplinary specialising in Youth Work.Moreover, the Institute also offers Diploma/Post Graduate Diploma Programmes, Post Graduate Diploma in Youth Development and Diploma in Community Mental Health.

 

During the occasion the Honourable Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Vijay Goel, inaugurated the National Youth Resource Centre and Exhibition Centre & Gallery in the presence of the Chairman of RGNIYD’s Executive Council and Secretary (Youth Affairs), Shri Rajiv Gupta IAS, Shri. A. K. Dubey IAS, OSD, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri. L. K. Gupta IAS, Joint Secretary (Youth Affairs) and other officials of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.    

 

The National Youth Resource Centre (NYRC) is created to function as a depository of knowledge on youth related data which facilitates formulation of policies and programmes, store and update disaggregated data specific to youth and adolescents and to bring out research reports, monographs, training manuals, IEC materials and other relevant publications on youth development. Besides, the will encompass the ICT Training Centre, Cyber Library and Language Laboratory. The Institute also proposes to set up a Geo-Spatial Laboratory in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS).  

 

As, the Institute is the focal point, where the youth can organize their talent exhibitions, the Exhibition Centre and Gallery will create space for the youth to periodically conduct exhibitions to display the talents to promote scientific temper and creativity among youth, depict the life and work of various youth icons in the country, exhibitions featuring developments in various fields, display the creativity of young innovators and portray thematic to create awareness among the general public.

 

Later, during the Convocation ceremony, the Director of RGNIYD, Dr. Latha Pillai will present the Annual Report on the accomplishments of the Institute.  Shri Rajeev Gupta, Chairperson of the RGNIYD's Executive Council will award the degrees to the graduands followed by his address. The Hon'ble Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports will present the awards, medals and prizes to the graduands and will deliver the convocation address

 

Subsequent to the convocation, Prof. J. S. Rajput, Former Director of NCERT delivered the Foundation Day Lecture on the theme "Youth and Social Change".

 

The programme had the Members of the RGNIYD’s Executive Council, Academic Council and other statutory bodies besides the officials of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. Renowned academicians, youth development experts, industrialists, heads of various institutions of higher education, the present and former students of RGNIYD and their parents also witness the programme.

 

The RGNIYD functions as a vital resource centre with its multi-faceted functions of offering academic programmes encompassing various dimensions of youth development, engaging in seminal research in the vital areas of youth development and coordinating training programmes for state agencies and the officials of youth organisation, besides the extension and outreach initiatives across the country.
